RTC’s ‘Crossing Delancey’ Crosses Into Rockaway

By Selma Kleinman Special To The Wave

The romantic comedy “Crossing Delancey” by Susan Sandler is coming to the Post Theater in Fort Tilden courtesy of the acclaimed Rockaway Theatre Company. Opening weekend is Friday, August 19, Saturday, August 20 and Sunday, August 21.

Playing the role of Bubbie (Yiddish for ‘grandmother’) that first weekend is Rockaway resident Selma Geller Kleinman, who last appeared at the Post Theater as Ms. Crawford in the RTC’s production of the zany comedy “Drop Dead.”

She also played Juno in O’Casey’s “Juno and the Paycock” at John Baxter’s Rockaway Theater. Bubbie will be played the following weekend, August 26, 27 and 28, by RTC veteran Janet Miserandino. She has appeared in that company’s productions of “Come Back to the Five and Dime Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean,” “The Women,” “Oliver” and “Arsenic and Old Lace.” The actress recently finished a supporting role in the RTC’s smash hit “Annie Get Your Gun.” Kleinman and Miserandino will alternate the role of Bubbie in the final two performances, September 9 and 10. Friday and Saturday performances start at 8 p.m., Sunday matinees at 2 p.m.

“Crossing Delancey” is a sentimental comedy combining match-ups and mischief with the background of New York City. It tells the struggle of immigrants from Europe who came to America in search of a better life for themselves and their children.

Come to the Post Theater and enjoy watching the trials and tribulations of a bygone era in New York City through the perspective of today’s world.

Come and Enjoy!
