The 16th Annual Sand Castle Contest was held on the beach near Beach 117 Street on Sunday, July 31 between 10 a.m. and noon. The competition, sponsored by West End Realty, HSBC and the New York City Parks Department, brought out many people, both young and old, and everyone was given participation medals. The coolest creations, however, won trophies, and some of them are shown in these photographs.
