Championship Time Begins At St. Francis Summer Classic

As we come to the end of July, the divisional races in the St. Francis Summer Classic are shaping up. Championship season began with the Graybeards finals on Thursday, July 28.

In Men’s Open, Quigley Insurance is the lone undefeated team at 4-0. Longtime stalwarts Rock Park All-Stars sit right behind at 4-1 and Ludwig’s Caterers are 3-1 along with new entry ICAP. Belle Harbor Steakhouse is 3-2 in defense of their title as are 2009 champs Caiazzo Plumbing. Bungalow Bar, Only Shirts and Pants and newcomer Beauty Parlor are 2-3. Slices and Ices are 1-3, Jameson’s 1-4 and Irish Circle is still looking for their first win (0-4).

Bungalow Bar leads the Women’s Open at 5-2 with Jameson’s 4-3, and Harbor Light 3-3. Irish Circle and Boardwalk Bagel are both 2-4. Girls High School is now underway and R. Tyne Painting is 2-0 with Animal Hospital of the Rockaways and Walter Blum’s Giants 1-1. Betty Boops are 0-2.

The Girls Grammar Senior division is split between contenders and pretenders.

BHYC is 6-1 with The Wave and Kimball Construction 5-2. Belle Harbor Chemists are 2-4, Walsh Management Services 1-5 and T. Moriarty & Son 1-6. Playoffs in this division begin Monday with semifinals Tuesday and the championship on Wednesday, though that may be changed.

The Boys High School division continues to excite the fans with their close, hard fought games. JG Electrical Installations is 4-1 as is Dr. Schilling’s PODs. Orangemen and BRS Bullets are 3-2. Grayriders and Coastal Real Estate are 2-3. Belle Harbor Physical Therapy and Breen Electric are 1-4.

Graybeards are the last undefeated Boys Grammar Senior team at 5-0. Irish Circle is 4-1, Melons 3-2, Walsh Properties 3-2, Ameritag 2-3, Cyberzone 1-4, Kennedy’s 1-4 and J&E Industries 1-4. Curran’s Superior Meats are just that in Boys Grammar Middle play with a record of 4-1. Boarders Surf Shop is 3-2 along with Station Liquors. The remaining teams – Storage Place, Rockaway Little League, Kill, Wood, Ace & Mann, Plum Tomatoes, and Rockaway Jetty are 2-3, so it looks like all are in position to make a move.

The Second Grade, Boys Grammar Junior and Girls Grammar Junior divisions will continue for two more weeks, wrapping up on August 10. As mentioned earlier, Girls Grammar Senior playoffs are set for next week. Boys Grammar Middle, Grammar Senior, and High School playoffs are the following week with championships tentatively set for August 16.

The Men’s Open playoffs are the week of August 15 with the championship scheduled for August 18. The Women’s Open championship is set for August 16 and Girls High School August 18.

All the leagues will come together tonight, July 29, to participate in the Graybeards Family Run. It’s getting hot in here!
