Despite Heat, Haze, Tribute Park Fundraiser A Hit

Despite intense heat and a haze that minimized the usually beautiful sunset, hundreds came to Tribute Park on Beach 116 Street for a fundraiser on Friday, July 22. In the tenth anniversary year of the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center, the participants came to pay tribute to the 70 Rockaway residents who lost their lives on September 11, 2001 as well as the 343 firefighters, many of whom came from Rockaway. With continuous music, good food, the Fire Department Pipes and Drums, a dazzling display by an FDNY fireboat, and memories, the affair lasted into the night. For more photos, see pages 44 and 45.
