Rockaway Waterfront Alliance Kids Go Surfing At NY Surf School

RWA youth with long boards. RWA youth with long boards. Summer is off to a great start for the kids of the Rockaway Waterfront Alliance. The students couldn’t have been more fortunate than to have Frank Cullen of NY Surf School as a mentor this summer. The students are all part of the RWA summer Aqua 101 program that takes the kids out every Wednesday to surf under Cullen’s direction. Last week was the first time for many to jump in and try surfing the waves off Rockaway Beach. This is the second year RWA has partnered with NY Surf School.

“The pictures tell it all. You can see from the smiles of their faces that this is the first time many of these kids have had to really enjoy the surf and waves off the beach. We’re grateful to Frank and NY Surf School staff for taking the time to teach the kids the basics. I know these will be some of the fondest and most memorable experiences these kids will have growing up in Rockaway,” said RWA program coordinator Elizabeth Manclark.
