‘Sunset In The Park’ Happens 7/22

By Kerri Ann Dinneny

‘Sunset in the Park’ will take place at Tribute Park on Beach 116 Street and Beach Channel Drive this Friday, July 22 from 6:00 p.m. until sunset.

The park was created to serve as a tribute, not a memorial, to those Rockaway residents who died in the September 11 attacks on the World Trade Center. The intention was to provide a place where community members can reflect on their lost loved ones and find comfort to move on with their lives. Located on Jamaica Bay, the homage park looks directly at the city’s skyline where the Twin Towers once reigned.

Last year, the night’s fundraiser drew a few hundred locals. The event is sponsored by Friends of Tribute Park and features live music provided by “Wine With Sue” and a Fireboat Water Display provided by FDNY. Light fare food will be catered by Ludwig’s Catering.

As of June 28, generous sponsors who have already contributed to the event are: Brooklyn Brewery, the DeMatteis family, the Graybeards, Harbor Light Restaurant, the Harkins family, Jameson’s Pub, RIBS, Rockaway Graphics, Rockaway WISH, The Heeran Foundation, Battalion 47, Enginge 265, Ladder 121, Belle Harbor Garden Club, the Linares family, the Picone family, Rockaway Rotary, Rockaway Seafood Co., Rockaway Waterfront Alliance, the Said family, Shore Garden Club, Station Liquors, Anonymous, and Wave Publishing Co.
