Man Shot At Edgemere Houses

By Howard Schwach

A Rockaway man remains in stable condition at the Jamaica Hospital Center after being shot once in the buttocks while hanging out in front of the sprawling Edgemere Houses, police sources say.

Michael Derbie, 20, was standing in front of 433 Beach 40 Street at about 12:50 a.m. on Thursday, July 7, when he was approached by a man who had crossed the street in his direction. Derbie told detectives from the 101 Precinct in Far Rockaway that he turned to run away but was shot.

The unknown shooter fled the scene as neighbors called the 911 system to report shots fired. Derbie described his assailant as a man wearing a red baseball cap and a white T-shirt. He told police that he had no idea why he was shot. Precinct detectives urge anybody with information to call the squad at 718-868-3429.
