On Saturday, July 9, two athletes from NY Novas, Timothy Grimes (12) and Daikichi Washington (12), went to Lincoln Park, Jersey City, New Jersey to compete in the RDA (Running Development Academy) Summer 2011 Track and Field Series Meet#1. In the very humid and hot weather, Grimes and Washington both finished their warm-up laps around the track and lined up for the 100-meter dash.

Grimes broke his personal record and finished the race in third place with a time of 14.01 seconds. Grimes also raced in the 200-meter dash. He reached the finish line in 30.40 seconds and made 5th place.

It was the first 100-meter race for Washington (he usually runs endurance events) and he finished fourth with 14.06 seconds.

Washington competed in the long jump and leaped 13’00”, 12’5”, 13’3” and 14’3” on his last try. He won first place on that final attempt.

The NY Novas running club practices on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at Bayswater Park. On Thursday after the practice, they gather at the Beach 95 Street boardwalk to participate in the Rockapulco Summer Run.
