Man Shot At Wavecrest Gardens

By Howard Schwach

A teenage Far Rockaway man was shot twice in the back by an unknown gunman at the sprawling Wavecrest Gardens complex on the morning of July 5, police sources say.

The Wavecrest Gardens comprises more than 25 buildings centered around Seagirt Boulevard, and was once the largest middle class housing complex in the nation, planned and executed by master builder Robert Moses in the 1950’s.

Patrol officers from the 101 Precinct in Far Rockaway, responding to a call of “shots fired,” found an unidentified 17- year-old teen with two gunshots to his back outside of 20-17 Seagirt Boulevard.

Police say that the victim, whose name is being withheld by police, was transported to the trauma unit at the Jamaica Hospital Center where he remains in stable condition.

He told police that he did not know who shot him nor who would have a motive for the shooting. Detectives from the 101 Precinct are investigating. Anybody with information is urged to call the detectives at 718-868-3429.
