Edward Joseph Gallagher

Edward Joseph Gallagher, a longtime Rockaway resident, died July 2.

Gallagher was born in the Greenwich Village neighborhood of Manhattan, New York. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II in northern Africa. He moved to Rockaway 50 years ago from the Washington Heights neighborhood of Manhattan and worked as a printer for the New York Daily News.

Gallagher was preceded in death by his brothers, Joseph and Jimmy.

He is survived by his daughter, Tara Brennan (John); Phyllis Egan (mother of Tara); brother, Duke Gallagher; sister, Patricia O’Kelly; grandchildren, Laura Brennan Angeles, Johnny, Lisa and Bryan Brennan; great-grandchildren, Leah Rose, Jenae Lynn and Jackson Angeles.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Denis S. O’Connor Funeral Home, Rockaway Beach. A funeral mass took place at St. Camillus Church, Rockaway Park. Interment remained private.
