Boycott McDonald’s

Dear Editor,

Now that the whole tawdry Anthony Weiner sexting scandal is no longer page one news, it’s time to move on to other things. It’s time to focus on boycotting McDonald’s!

McDonald’s recently launched a really outrageous, over the top ad on Far Rockaway A trains (where else?) promoting its iced coffee. The copy reads: To Not Falling Asleep and Ending Up in Far Rockaway (unless you live there).

What are those empty suits thinking? Is it really necessary to run derogatory ads deliberately aimed at insulting a whole neighborhood just to sell iced coffee? There is no way Mc- Donald’s would ever run such an ad taking cheap shots at any other neighborhood in New York City. Yet, for some strange reason, Rockaway is always fair game for contempt and ridicule.

Rockaway bashing has got to stop. Everyone on the Rockaway peninsula should boycott McDonald’s until the offending ads are gone and McDonald’s apologizes for an uncharacteristic lapse of judgment in advertising.

To Anthony Weiner: If you really want to make the righties mad, run for mayor in 2013 anyhow. To paraphrase Jack Dawson played by Leonardo Di- Caprio in Titanic: When you’ve got nothing, you’ve got nothing left to lose.
