Rock Beach Starts This Weekend
The Williamsburg-based group Jelly NYC, that once provided the hipsterhappy McCarren Park Pool Parties and Williamsburg Waterfront shows, has ditched familiar grounds for the opposite end of the Brooklyn spectrum, south to Floyd Bennett Field.
Their latest venture in free outdoor concerts will take place at Aviator Sports Complex, just a bridge crossing away from the newly hipster-discovered shores of Rockaway Beach. The free concerts will feature a full line-up of indie-rock music from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. starting this Saturday. The promoter promises slip and slides, beach volleyball, DJs, dodge ball, food and drinks. The shows are expected to take place throughout the summer. The last three concerts will include options for overnight camping for the August 20, September 3, and September 10 performances.
The shows, although taking place at an historic airport bordered in Brooklyn, are being dubbed “Rock Beach,” with Jelly NYC reminding concertgoers that Aviator Sports Complex is just a short walk from Fort Tilden Beach.
“After 5 years of Pool Parties in Williamsburg, we are very excited to be moving out to the Aviator Sports Complex near one of our favorite summer destinations, Fort Tilden Beach,” Jelly NYC said in a statement. “We are looking forward to leaving Bedford Avenue behind, offering an ultimate weekend destination and adventure for all ages.”
The first show will feature performances from bands that include Penguin Prison, Wild Yaks, Janka Nabay and The Bubu Gang, and Monogold. For more information visit Rockbeach.us.
