For the role of each employee is vital to any company. From the custodial staff, to the volunteers, to the top executives of a business. Each individual has a specific task of great importance which leads us into the new exhibit hosted this weekend by the Rockaway Artists Alliance, (RAA). The exciting new exhibition is entitled “People at Work.”

On view July 9 - July 31 in sTudio 7 gallery, Rockaway Center for the Arts (RoCA) at Fort Tilden, “People at Work” has invited its artists to bring to life the world of … people at work.

The opening reception for the exhibit is Sunday, June 10, 12 p.m. – 4 p.m. Join us along with the participating artists as we enjoy each other’s company and have our discussions by the water cooler of art and observe “People at Work.” Fort Tilden is located in Gateway National Recreation Area, a unique, picturesque seaside national park.

Among the pieces in the show, artist Daniela Sessa captures the rhythms of a DJ at work on his turntables with her stunning digital photograph of an L.E.S Artist. In a slice of the Rockaway community, photographer Dina Kaliko snaps a photo of an employee at Rockaway Taco preparing food. Bernie Feuer frames actor Steve Buscemi filming on location in Rockaway for the HBO series “Boardwalk Empire.” All are reflections of individuals at work, fulfilling the duties that are required of them during their “9-5.”

“People at Work” artists include Penelope Atheras, Bernie Feuer, Dina Kaliko, Martha Elliot Killian, Ruth Kraiem, Jessica Schulman and Daniela Sessa.

RAA’s next and largest exhibition of the year will be opening in September. “Artsplash 2011” is a multimedia exhibition which showcases both visual and performing arts. Annually it has featured the original works of artists from all over the United States. Special events that take place during the run of the exhibition have included dance, theater, music, literary events, art demonstrations and more.
