Homeless Man Struck On Beach 116 Street

Police Say Motorist Had Green Light

A homeless man who spends much of his day panhandling in the Beach 116 Street shopping area was hit by an unidentified motorist who had a green light at the time of the accident.

According to local police sources, Raheem McWhite, 34, of no certain address, was crossing Rockaway Beach Boulevard at Beach 116 Street at about 11:51 p.m. on June 16, when he was struck by the car.

McWhite was transported to the Jamaica Hospital Trauma Center, where he remains in stable condition, sources say.

The driver remained at the scene and no summonses were issued in relation to the incident.
