Where Are The Lifeguards?

Dear Editor,

I have had a bungalow on Beach 24 Street off Seagirt Boulevard for the past 25 years.

Unfortunately, almost each year the residents in the area must notify their councilperson, the Parks Department and others to attain lifeguards on Beach 24 and 25 Streets. As of this time, there are no lifeguards on 24 and 25 Street. There is a lifeguard station several blocks down from us and several blocks up from us, but not in our area.

When Councilman Sanders’ office claims that there are few lifeguards in the city, I must disagree.

It is quite evident that those beaches on the west end of the Rockaways have found an adequate number of lifeguards to safeguard the people. In the past, many have come to the beaches on 24 and 25 Streets.

Now that our area has a new and lovely boardwalk, and there is construction in the parking lot area down near Beach 9 Street, more and more people will be frequenting 24 and 25 Street beaches during the summer months.

It is important for the safety of the swimmers that lifeguards are assigned to these beaches.
