Murder At Ocean Bay Houses

The murder took place at the sprawling Ocean Bay public housing complex. The murder took place at the sprawling Ocean Bay public housing complex. A Rockaway man was shot twice in the head and killed in a hallway at the Ocean Bay Houses in Arverne on Sunday afternoon, police say.

According to police sources, patrol officers responding to a 911 call at about 2:52 p.m. on June 12, found Yommaine Hunter, 23, lying in a pool of blood in the fourth floor hallway of 364 Beach 56 Street, in the sprawling Ocean Bay public housing complex. Police say that Hunter lived in that building.

It was the second homicide in the 101 Precinct this year, down from four homicides at this time last year, NYPD CompStat figures show.

Hunter was declared dead at the scene by responding emergency medical technicians.

Hunter’s body was transported to the city’s chief medical examiner’s morgue for an official determination of the cause of death.
