Wave Cartoonists Demo Skills To RAA
As seen here, Wave cartoonists Elgin Bolling (r.) and Thomas Kerr demonstrate the fine art of caricature at a recent General Meeting of the Rockaway Artists Alliance. Performer, poet, artist, author and professional caricaturist, Bolling enlisted Kerr as his model as he illustrated the fine points of his craft for a large and attentive audience.
On Monday, June 13 RAA’s General Meeting presenter will be talented painter Nina Talbot. She will be discussing and displaying images from Painting Brooklyn Stories of Immigration and Survival, an exhibition she has co-curated for the Brooklyn Historical Society. The Society states, “the exhibit presents striking stories of Brooklyn residents through paintings, oral histories, poetry and personal effects. These different modes of expression offer multiple perspectives on this complex issue.”
Talbot painted portraits of each storyteller especially for the exhibition, which runs through August 14, 2011. RAA General Meetings are open to the public and all are invited. Meetings take place on the second Monday of each month starting at 7:30 p.m., generally in the T-6 gallery building at Fort Tilden.
Scheduled for the July 11 meeting is Belle Harbor acupuncturist and healer Dr. Susan Sachs whose ‘art of healing’ includes the practice of Classical and TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine). Her philosophy “is to balance the body, to bring it back into harmony and balance,” which she uses in her treatments for allergies, pain management and fertility.
The RAA invites all to come to see and hear their entertaining and informative presentations and experience these fascinating presenters’ expertise for themselves.
