Olexa Named 100 Precinct CO

By Howard Schwach

Captain Scott Olexa has been named the commanding officer of the 100 Precinct. Captain Scott Olexa has been named the commanding officer of the 100 Precinct. The New York City Police Department has appointed a new commanding officer for the 100 Precinct to replace Deputy Inspector Thomas Barrett, who retired last month after two decades of service.

The new commanding officer of the Rockaway Beach precinct is Captain Scott J. Olexa, a man with lots of experience in policing southern Queens.

Olexa, who is taking his first command at the 100 Precinct, has long been involved at Patrol Borough Queens South, the command that runs the eight precincts in southern Queens, including the 100 Precinct.

Perhaps the most public assignment in his career was as the Shooting Team Leader for the Queens South Command which investigated and reported on the fatal shooting of Sean Bell in November of 2006.

The Bell case became a national story when several undercover police officers shot and killed Bell and wounded two of his companions after his bachelor party at a Jamaica, New York strip club wellknown to the police for its prostitution and sale of alcohol to underage patrons.

All of the police officers were found not guilty of murder at a trial in Queens Supreme Court.

Olexa has had other assignments in Queens South as well, heading the gang unit and other specialized units, officials say.
