New AD 23 Leader Selected
The Harry S. Truman Regular Democratic Club hosted the swearing in ceremony of newly elected Democratic District Leader Jo Ann Shapiro. District Attorney, Judge Richard A. Brown, conducted the ceremony and administered the oath of office.
On April 28, Jo Ann Shapiro, a longtime resident of Rockaway, was elected as the new Female Democratic District Leader for the 23AD Part A, by the Queens County Committee. She is filling the vacancy that was created by the resignation of Audrey Pheffer.
“As a member of the Harry S. Truman Democratic Club for over 25 years, I am proud to now serve as the Club’s Executive Member and to be elected as the District Leader,” said Shapiro. “I’m looking forward to working with my exceptional Co- Leader, Frank Gulluscio, in serving this community with integrity and distinction.”
“Jo Ann has a proven record of working for our community for many years, she has big shoes to fill but has shown she is up to the job,” stated Councilman James Sander, who attended the swearing in ceremony.
Along with the almost 100 Harry S. Truman Club members, the ceremony was also attended by Commissioner Pheffer; CB#14 Chair Dolores Orr; CB#10 Chair Betty Bratton; Philip Goldfedder, representative of Senator Charles Schumer; and representatives for Congressman Anthony Weiner and State Senator Malcolm Smith; and many of Shapiro’s family members and friends.
