Two Shootings Mar Far Rockaway Day

By Howard Schwach

Last Friday, May 20, was not a good day for Far Rockaway, as two shootings that day were recorded within hours of each other.

Friday was not yet four hours old when the first shooting took place.

Police sources say that a 29-year-old man, whom they declined to identify, was shot at about 3:42 a.m. at the intersection of Gateway Boulevard and Everdell Avenue.

The man, police say, was shot once in the right leg, but he sustained a graze wound to his left leg as well.

He was stabilized by EMS on the scene and then transported to the trauma center at Jamaica Hospital, where he was reportedly treated and released.

A dozen hours later, at 4:23 p.m., a 46- year-old unidentified man was shot once in the left hand in the vicinity of Redfern Avenue and Mott Avenue.

The victim was stabilized on the scene by EMS and transported to the trauma center at Jamaica Hospital, where he was reportedly treated and released.

Police sources say that neither man could identify his shooter and that both say that they had no idea why they were targeted.

Detectives from the 100 Precinct Squad are investigating both shootings.

Anybody with information about either shooting should contact the detectives at 718-868-3429.
