Wood Plank Robber Arrested

By Nicholas Briano

An Arverne man was arrested last weekend after he and two others robbed a man of his backpack along New Haven Avenue and Beach 20 Street, according to Queen Criminal Court papers.

Michael Zeigler, 22, and two other suspects still wanted by police, grabbed a 27- year-old male at about 1 a.m. on Saturday and ordered him to surrender his backpack. Zeigler is accused of wielding a wood plank he found on the street nearby to threaten the man who lost the bag during a struggle with the men, according to police. One of the suspects reportedly punched the victim in the face as well.

Police found Zeigler nearby along Brookhaven Avenue, where he was arrested and charged with robbery, criminal possession of a weapon and criminal possession of stolen property. His bail was set at $15,000. He is due back in court on May 27.
