Attempted Robbery Gone Bad

By Nicholas Briano

A Far Rockaway man was arrested in Nassau County last Saturday night along with another teenager as they acted together in an attempted robbery of the victim’s cell phone, according to published reports.

Osvaldo Bonilla, 19, of Far Rockaway and Inwood resident Jonathan Cedillos, 16, made prior arrangements with the 18-year-old victim to meet at North Woodmere Park to exchange a SIM card for a cell phone. Upon meeting the victim the two suspects allegedly demanded his cell phone near the park along Glenridge Avenue in North Woodmere. According to police, the victim attempted to run away when Cedillos chased him down from behind and pulled him to the ground causing minor injuries to his knee. Bonilla reportedly caught up with the two men and began punching the victim in the face repeatedly. The defendants fled the scene without stealing the phone and were caught by police a short time later.

Both suspects were arraigned at First District Court in Hempstead and charged with two counts of attempted robbery.
