Ella Mae Hunter
Ella Mae Hunter, a longtime Rockaway resident, died May 7.
Hunter was born in Courtland, Virginia on July 25, 1936. She attended the First Baptist Church of Far Rockaway where she ushered and sang in the choir.
Hunter was preceded in death by her husband, Cleveland Hinnant Jr., and son, Stanley Thomas Garris.
She is survived by her children, Gertrude Hunts, Cecil Garris, Rose Garris and Milton Garris (Loretta), Linda Reed, and Cleveland Hinnant III (Yvonne); grandchildren, Tabitha Walker, Brian Walker, Erin Garris, Latanya Garris, Jessica Jordan (Jomo), Veronica Hinnant, Jamel Garris, Shundrika Garris, Thomas Hunter, Harold Reed III, and Christopher Barton; sister, Lucille Smith of Wilmington Delaware; aunt, Flossine Wilson of New York City; godchildren, Latima Fowler and Eddie Myles; and a host of great-grandchildren, cousins, relatives and friends.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Jeremiah C. Gaffney Friendship Chapel, Inwood, New York. Interment took place at Forest Park Cemetery, Morganville, New Jersey.
