Out Of Business

Dear Editor,

On April 8, 2011 The Rockaway Volunteer Ambulance Corp. has voluntarily surrendered its Certificate of Operation to the Department of Health due to lack of funding and economical hardship. As a result of this set back, “The Rock Vac” was not able to purchase the $15,000 a year commercial auto insurance that is needed to insure our 1998 Ford ambulance.

NYS DOH requires that any agency that does not show any productivity in a 30 day period, their certificate can be revoked and may never have the opportunity to reinstate said certification.

This decision was very hard to make knowing that this well deserved community will lose a valuable asset (extra ambulance coverage) to provide medical care for those in need and not have to wait for 30 minutes or more for help to arrive.

We have reached out to our local politicians and state representatives and their answer was that there was NO FUNDING AVAILABLE AT THIS TIME.

If there is anything you can do to help us with this dilemma, it would be greatly appreciated.
