Shamrocks Go 0-2 In Mother’s Day Tournament

The BCAC Shamrocks fourth grade AAU basketball team traveled over the Whitestone Bridge to play in the annual Hooperstown Mother’s Day Classic. Their first opponents were the Staten Island Mavericks. The Mavericks outscored the Shamrocks 37-16 at Msgr. Scanlan High School in the first round. Seamus O’Connell gave 110 percent on both ends of the court in the losing effort. In the second round, the Shamrocks faced the Long Island Lightning. The contest went back and forth for most of the game until the Lightning pulled away and won 29-17. Coach Billy Hofmann’s team shot 0 for 11 from the charity stripe.

Kevin Moriarty led all scorers in both games with 14 points and Brian Bostwick followed with 9 points. The overall AAU record for the BCAC Shamrocks is now 7-5.

The Shamrocks’ next tournament is the AAU districts from May 20 to May 22 at the Island Gardens in West Hempstead.
