Good Weekend For The BCAC Pee Wee Shamrocks

Last weekend the St. Virgilius/St. Camillus BCAC Shamrocks played Saturday and Sunday, and the results each day were the same: Shamrock victories.

On Saturday, the boys welcomed the beautiful weather with a road game against Our Lady of Hope. Excellent pitching and defense, along with timely hitting was the recipe for a 4-1 Shamrock victory. Lefty phenom Jack Allen pitched a gem. Allen would throw six innings, giving up only one hit and no walks while striking out nine.

When Our Lady of Hope did put the ball in play, the Shamrock defense was there. Matt McCabe, Joe Iannello and Danny Clark rounded out an infield anchored by first basemen Mike O’Connell that played exceptionally. In the fourth inning, Riley Steiner singled to drive in Nick Galimi with the go ahead run and the Shamrocks were on their way to the win.

On Sunday, the boys gave their moms the best present of all for Mother’s Day; a Shamrock Victory. The Shamrocks played at Memorial Field in Broad Channel for the first time this season, and treated the home crowd to a come from behind 5-4 victory over Gate of Heaven.

Down by a run in the bottom of the fifth, the Shamrocks rallied for two runs on a walk and two hits. Kevin Moriarity delivered the game-winning RBI with a single that scored the winning run. With Gate of Heaven threatening in the top of the sixth, Joey Iannello and Danny Clark turned a game ending double play to seal the victory. The win puts the Shamrocks at 3- 1 in the CYO Pee Wee Green Division.
