Elaine’s Girls Compete In NJ
On April 30 the Competition Teams from Mrs. Elaine’s School of Dance traveled to Edison, New Jersey where they competed at the Omega Dance Challenge, a national dance competition. The team from the Rockaways, coached by Elaine Freeburg and Stacey Bennett, fared outstandingly well; earning six Diamond Awards and 21 Platinum Awards.
The studio also won “Most Creative Studio” Award and the “Bust-A-Move” Award. Martha Bennett also earned the “Broadway Bound, Jr.” Award. The dancers won 14 first place awards, 10 second place awards and three third place awards. Every dancer qualified for the National Finals. Those who danced were: Isabella Amato, Sofia Appel, Eden Ayala, Katie Bainbridge, Clarissa Barnes, Martha Bennett, Tommy Bennett, Stacey Bennett, Katema Bradshaw, Kyle Brown, Elizabeth Budney, Jenelle Burgess, Joelle Burgess, Shannon Caparatta, Elianna Cruz, Tatiana Dawkins, Jailynn Diaz, Jessica Diaz, Camryn Fabrizio, Collette Fagan, Elaine Freeburg, Yamila Frej, Kate Galvin, Elyssa Gangi, Amoni Greaves, Kayla Halvey, Jody Hylton, Jahnaiha King, Katie King, Leann Kissane, Ellen Lydon, Amber Malloy, Emily McHale, Robert McManus, Sabrina Mohan, Catherine Muldoon, Lily Nylund, Molly Nylund, Heather O’Neill, Lexi Opderbeck, Janine Piccerill, Jewel Pierre, Makenzie Rivera, Nicole Rodriguez, Ciara Romero, Nicole Sluyk, Rachel Shapiro, Stephanie Shapiro, Tara Shea, Heidi Strugacz, Scott Szczypczyk, Taylor Tuohey, Charlotte Turchi, Amanda Vouitsis, Samantha Weiner, and Elizabeth Zukauskas. For a number of the dancers, some as young as 4, this was their competition debut.
