An IPO For The Mets
The fans bailed out Citibank, chipped in for Citi Field and should be given the opportunity to own part of the Mets in light of the money problems confronting their owners.
All Baseball Commissioner Selig has to do is to give the OK for a Mets’ IPO and two of his problems will be solved: Shareholders will comprise a good percentage of game attendance as they keep their eyes on their investment (and they can use their ticket expenses as a tax deduction). And, the Wilpons can use the cash inflow to re-sign Jose Reyes, which, if the Mets want any attendance at all going forward, is a must.
Everyone is speculating where Reyes will hang his bat next year. If the Mets let him go elsewhere, no matter who they get in return, if they think they have attendance problems now, a post Reyes Citi Field will be a ghost town for years to come.
