Queens Library CEO Thomas W. Galante joined Councilmember Eric Ulrich to demonstrate new 24/7 self check-in technology recently installed at Queens Library at Seaside.

As part of an initiative to minimize lines and improve customer service at libraries borough-wide, self-service technology allows customers to quickly and easily return materials. The external kiosk provides 24-hour access to return materials, and allows customers to walk away with receipts to document their returns.

It also sorts materials automatically, freeing up library staff to spend more time assisting customers, plus it gets high-demand materials back into circulation more quickly.

The full upgrade of equipment at Queens Library at Seaside, including automated self check out and self check in equipment, was made possible in part through funding secured by Councilmember Ulrich.

“This technology is a great improvement to Queens Library at Seaside that the whole community will benefit from. We are grateful for the commitment Councilman Ulrich has shown to support it,” said Galante.

“Seaside Library is now equipped with state-of-the-art technology that will help make it easier for customers to return books and DVDs day or night. This is truly a worthwhile investment that will save residents both time and money and is another great example of the city reinvesting tax dollars back into the community,” said Ulrich.
