Beach 116 Street Businesses Burn

Two businesses along Beach 116 Street were all but destroyed when a two alarm fire broke out early Monday morning, according to Fire Department officials.

Rockaway Pets and Dog Salon and all its small pets inside fell victim when a fire was started inside the adjacent Dry Cleaners and quickly spread at around 4:40 a.m. Both businesses were closed at the time of the fire which was responded to at 4:40 a.m. and was declared a second alarm fire at 4:58 a.m. Firefighters battled the flames until nearly 6 a.m. when it was determined under control. One firefighter was treated at Peninsula Hospital Center with minor injuries, according to the fire officials. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
