John William Travers
John William Travers, 80, a former Rockaway resident, died April 26.
Travers was born on June 11, 1930 in New York City to John and Elizabeth Travers. He was a longtime Rockaway Beach resident who worked for the New York City Transit Authority. He retired in 1989 and moved to Cape Coral, Florida in 1995. He was a member of the Elks Lodge #2199 and Eagles Aerie #3957. He also served in the U.S. Navy.
Travers was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Josephine (Traynor) Travers; son, Michael William Travers; and brother, Thomas Travers.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret “Marge” of Cape Coral, Florida; sons, John James Travers of Santa Fe, Texas and Brian Gerard (Kimberly) Travers of Kingwood, Texas; daughters, Colleen Travers Lynch and Tara Travers both of Naples, Florida; sisters, Maureen McDonough of Washingtonville, New York and Ann Bowler of Ellenville, New York; brother, James Travers of Madisonville, Louisiana; and grandchildren, Meaghan, Connor and Michael.
