Open Our Hearts

Dear Editor,

I started to cry, when I read your headline last week “Brother Tom Absolved.“ Brother Tom is and always was my “Friend.“ I have many acquaintances but very few whom I consider a Friend.

When the sexual abuse charges were brought against him, I was devastated. I could not fathom why anyone would or could say such a thing about a caring individual who has given of himself to help thousands of children to become productive citizens in our society.

These are children who have been abused and fell through the cracks and Brother Tom has taught them self respect and decency. He has taken the time and has always gone that extra mile to help “His Children.“

If all of this has devastated me, I cannot in my heart know what this has done to Brother Tom. I just hope and pray that we as a Community will open our Hearts to a Man that was falsely accused, and let him back into our lives as it was before. By that I mean his position at St. John’s, the Red Door, all the Boards that he sat on, all the Organizations that he belonged to; whatever was normal for his everyday being. We should not persecute him for that which he was wrongly accused, but open our hearts and minds, and let him go back to the World he knew before all this has happened.
