Tenant Leaders Honored For Years Of Hard Work

A special ceremony was held recently to honor the leaders, all female, of Rockaway’s major housing developments. They are Peggy Thomas, of Hammel Tenant Association, Lawanda Ganey of the Carleton Manner Tenant Association, Janet Young of the Beach 41st Street Tenant Association, Doris Jacobs of the Redfern Tenant Association, Connie Taylor and Geraldine Jones of the Ocean Bay Apartments Tenant Association and Barbara Walker of the Gateway Council Organization.

Councilman James Sanders Jr., who hosted the event, said, “This is being done because you have done such a good job. I want to make sure that you are recognized as such.”

Hammel Community Center played host to the April 21 event. Each woman received a special citation from the City Council.
