Schmidt Sets‘Focus On Jamaica Bay’

“Focus on Jamaica Bay,” on display at the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center through May 31, features 16 color and black and white photographs by landscape and seascape photographer Stephanie Schmidt. The artist’s unforgettable images capture the grandeur and simple eloquent natural beauty of the national park in our own backyard – Gateway National Recreation Area – Fort Tilden, Floyd Bennett Field, Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge and Breezy Point. Four images were taken in other national parks. In “Looking Forward,” a jetty of rocks cuts through the water in front of the viewer like the bow of a majestic ship, leading the eye to the pinks and permanent roses of an endless sky. In “Dune,” a dramatic sky and windswept beach speak for themselves. Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge is located on Cross Bay Boulevard.
