Auto Vandalism Strikes West End
One man, whose two cars were parked in the driveway of a private home on Beach 130 Street, said that he was not opposed to teens having some fun on a warm evening, but that destroying other people’s property went too far.
“I realize that the kids haven’t much to do in the evenings, and they sit around St. Francis de Sales [church] or in front of the stores on Beach 129 Street and have a couple of pops, but that does not mean they have to do criminal acts,” one resident, who asked not to be identified lest he become a target of the young vandals, said. “We have to arrest the kids who did it and then start finding things for them to do with their spare time.”
The vandals, all of whom can be charged with criminal mischief for their acts, struck on April 20, between 7:30 and 11 p.m. in an area bounded by Beach 130 Street and Beach 135 Street, from Newport Avenue to Cronston Avenue, police said.
In all, there were approximately a dozen reports filed with the 100 Precinct in Rockaway Beach.
Detectives from the precinct are investigating, and anybody with information should contact the 100 Squad at 718-318-4266.
