Get The Facts First

Dear Editor,

My name is Teasha Young and all three of my children go to PS/MS114. They range in age from 12 (The Terrible Middle School) to two 9-yearolds. I myself went to PS114 until 2nd grade, then to St. Camillus till 8th grade which PS114 now goes to. My daughter who is in middle school, as they call it now, does very well!! When we went to school it was K-8 unless it was K-6, then whatever school your parents sent you from there. If PS114 was up to 8th grade then, all six of us children in my family would have gone there instead of leaving for another school. If the parent who did not have the guts to print his/her name in the article two weeks ago would go and see PS/MS114 for themselves they would have a better outlook on the school rather than shoot their mouth off about something they don’t know about!! If he/she looked at the Catholic schools that also go from K to 8th I wonder what he/she would have to say about them??? My children and all the other children at PS/MS114 get a very good education and I wouldn’t have them leave just because someone made a dumb mistake that was taken care of right away!!! Does this parent think it’s a bad idea that the 6th-, 7thand 8th-graders go to school with high schoolers??? It’s the same scenario if not worse than K-8!!!

PS/MS114 is a great school and I feel that The Wave should not have let this be written about without letting the school know. My daughter was very upset as were her teachers!! My daughter told me that some of her teachers were so upset they were crying because they put their heart and soul in the work they do with our children in school and I am proud to say they are the best teachers around!!

So please next time you want to say something about a school, you should get all the facts first!!

Please don’t get me wrong about 6th, 7th and 8th being with the high school children. I will probably send my kids to a high school that has younger students. When I went to school it was different as many things are today, so with that being said let’s not judge a system that has had a bad thing happen, especially when the situation was handled as fast as it happened!! PS/ MS114 students are just as smart as Scholars’; it’s a matter of preference of both the student and parent to where they go in their education. We chose PS/MS114 for our children and are very happy with it. At this moment all three of my children are high 3 to 4 students.

TEASHA YOUNG
