RWA Gets Ready For Earth Day
Last Saturday was a windy blustery day, but people still showed up to clean the beach in preparation for this year’s Earth Day Rockaway event. Most of the people who came were local students from Scholars’Academy and others who attend RWA’s afterschool program.
The area around Beach 59 Street and the boardwalk will be used this year for the Earth Day Rockaway event and is in terrible need of TLC. The area was in poor condition from the work presently being done by contractors to repair the boardwalk. After a long winter, trees were left with debris and bags caught in them. But by the end of the day much of the large construction debris and trash from the area were cleared away thanks to everyone’s help on Saturday.
This year will be the 5th Annual Earth Day Rockaway event hosted by RWA and the Parks Department. More than 30 organizations are participating this year, hosting free activities, workshops and performances in support of the environment. The event will take place on Saturday, April 30 from 12-3 p.m. off the boardwalk at Beach 59 Street. All are welcome to join in the fun.
