Kosmos Teams Record Solid Wins On The Road

The Kosmos Nikh U9, the all-girl team in the boys division, kicked the day off last Saturday in Flushing Meadow Park against the Millennium Soccer Boys U9.

The team played a great defensive game with Sabrina McCarthy as sweeper, Lauren Koenig, Molly Abernathy, Molly Murtagh, Niahm Gormely and Beth Dunn as fullbacks. Midfielder Sydney Urban made a straight pass to Catherine Lunny who struck the ball hard into the goal to cut the Millenium lead to 2-1 at halftime.

Grace Lanzetta, Taylor Bryan, Kate McNamara and Maggie Murphy. Bryan trapped the ball and ran it to the opponent’s goal. The goalie dropped the ball and Maggie Murphy was there to put the goal into the net. Kate Hughes played a great game as the goalie, stopping many balls struck at her. Millennium won the game 4 -2.

Sunday made even more of a fantastic soccer day at Kissena Park in Flushing. The Kosmos Artemis GU9 girls defeated Staten Island Silver Lake Academy by a score of 3-1. Goals were scored by Devin Ris (2) and Kate McNamara, assisted by Mollie Abernethy, Kaysea Jenkusky and Sydney Colleran. The offense led by McNamara, Kathleen Walker and Caitlin Mullin kept Staten Island on their heels.

A tremendous game by Lauren Koenig, Shannon Neiswenter, Jenkusky and Shannon Beissel in midfield, along with a solid performance in defense by Daniella Di Carlo and Nina Melchiorri, prevented any goals attempted by Silver Lake. Both Beissel and Melchiorri had it easy in goal, making each save seem simple.

Kosmos Atalanta GU9 played beautifully as a team going head to head with SC Gjoa Saba Comets. Sabrina Mc- Carthy, Nikki Cimino, Sofia Edri, Katie Roventini and Emma Baldwin displayed excellent defense. Superb goal tending by Katie Hughes kept the score at 1-1. Urban popped her first goal in and before the half, Murphy’s goal gave Atalanta the lead 2-1.

The continuous aggressive offensive by Noelle Carey, Taylor Bryan and Vivianna Moore kept the pressure completely on the Comets. Atalanta was able to come ahead victorious when Urban and Murphy each scored their second goals, winning the game 4-2.

Following both GU9 games was the win by the Kosmos Atalanta U11 girls team. They won the game against Staten Island Alliance Ravens, 3-0. Goals were scored by Maddie McDade, Jessica Morelli and Maeve Regan. Goalie Breanne McDonnell showed her talent throughout the game.

The Kosmos BU7 group traveled to Valley Stream to play the Valley Stream SC Eagles. The team is really getting the hang of soccer and enjoying themselves. The GU-13 Kosmos Athena girls recorded 3-2 victory over the East Islip Thunderbirds in the second game of the LiveSpot Cup bringing their total record to 4-0. Emily Carlton scored a hat trick with assists from Gaby Breen, Shannon Rochelle and Hayley Urban.
