Manhattan Express Bus For Breezy Pointers
News Events/Travel Editor/Host • WNYX - TV Morning News • 12:00 noon on UHF Chs. 35 & 26 Monday - Friday

The MTA has approved a bus stop at Fort Tilden, the “Circle”/Beach 169 Street to expressly transport passengers to mid-Manhattan starting April 18 for early morning and early evening return. Check for scheduling. A parking area at Riis Landing, where the Ferry landing to Manhattan used to be, is being looked into at this time. As of now transportation to the heart of Manhattan has been terribly inadequate. There is a great need for improvement. Stand up and be heard. If you don’t complain, nothing will be done.

I try to stop into Kennedy’s the second Sunday of the month. If you see me, say “Hello.” Jeanie Vobis did and I was so glad to see her. Knew her from years ago at the Surf Club. She was there celebrating her 75th birthday with her children, nieces, nephews and grandchildren. Happy birthday Jeannie. You don’t look a day over 55. Send my love to other Surf Club members I know who are still here.

Debbie Hederman was celebrating her birthday with friends from Breezy Point: Ammi Tully and Mary Matthews; May Bayer from Jersey, and Jenny Leland from Staten Island and others.

They came from all over the states to Kennedy’s to attend Melony Graham’s wedding shower given by her mother, Noreen Graham and mother-in law-to be, Carol Quinn. Melony is a registered nurse from Boston and will marry Joe Quinn, a West Pointer, July 9 th under the swords at the Catholic Chapel at West Point (where I was first married). Joe Quinn also finished graduate school at Harvard, fought in Iraq and just got back from Afganistan. The bride’s father, Mark Graham, is an Army General in Oklahoma and Carol Quinn worked for him and was the cause of the couple getting together. The Quinn cousins were all present in full force. May Melony and Joe have a long and healthy love life together.

You don’t have to go far in Breezy Point to get quality tee shirts, bathing suits, skate boards, surf boards, mass variety of flip-flops etc. Just up the block from Kennedy’s on the Bay is Donald Ritter’s Surf Shop and he is now open every day. Donald is thinking of moving to Florida. Tell him, “NO” the community needs him. It is too much of a bother and it cost too much in gas and tolls to shop elsewhere. And the price is right. We should all support local community establishments.

And now I report of events around the NYC which is only an express bus away.

At Cipriani’s on 42 Street, the Ritz Carlton Hotels held a show for the trade. Agents and media got a taste of their hospitality: Champagne, open bar and buffet tables of tasty foods wherever you looked. Ritz Carlton hoteliers from around the world supplied us with information. The Hong Kong Ritz Carlton just opened the tallest hotel in the world.

Novell Storage presented an interesting seminar on their advance way of storing files in your computer. This was at Morton’s Steak House, 551 Fifth Avenue. Luncheon of salmon and filet mignon was on the menu and I had both. The meal was the best and I can well recommend Morton’s, but be prepared to pay the price.

The Starhotels held their tradeshow at Michelangelo Hotel 152 West 51 Street on the mezzanine floor. This Starhotel has been completely renovated and presented a lovely event They have gorgeous, upscale luxury hotels throughout Italy and in Paris, France.

Arsenal on Fifth Avenue held a reception for the Historic Houses Trust, Adirondack Lakes Center for Arts and Great Camp Sagamore. This is a great nearby vacation spot. Take a tour of the Historic Houses, go sailing on the lake, camp out and just enjoy the views.
