Special Athletes Participate In Winter Events
This past year was memorable for the Special Athletes, who ended 2010 with a wonderful evening given by our neighbor and good friend, Joseph Mure, Esq.
Mure gave the gang a very special lighting of the Little North Pole. The athletes were treated to music, food and, of course, Santa with gifts for all. The Special Athletes truly appreciate Maritsa and Joe Mure and all they do for the community.
On February, 25, 26, and 27, the athletes spent a winter sports weekend at Windham Adaptive Sports Foundation at Windham Mountain.
Flip and Rita Mullen showed their expertise in arranging all the amenities for us to have a grand weekend. They arranged for us to go snow tubing on Friday evening and ordered pizza for our dinner. They also set up for lunch and dinner at the Adaptive Sports Lodge.
The couple arranged for a Mass to remember Matthew Burke, and Chris and Kathy Lawler and donated the flowers at the church, as well.
The Diana Golden/Mills Cup Race was a qualifying event and some of our kids made the qualifying time to compete. And compete they did in the half-mile downhill race with great times! In the women’s race Jennifer Romano won second place with a time of 00:47.45. Heather Huber placed third with a time of 00:51.71. In the Senior Men Mills Cup, Patrick Carroll’s time was 00:35.26 and Terence Burke’s time was 00:46.54.
On Saturday evening, the athletes and their families had a buffet at the Lodge. The youngsters danced and received medals. The Adaptive Sports Foundation is truly “A Place Where All Abilities Shine.”
