RBVL To Hold Final Pre-Season Meeting

By Joe McGivney

In preparation for the volleyball season, a critical date is fast approaching. The final Rockaway Beach Volleyball League pre-season meeting will be held on Wednesday, April 13 at 8:00 p.m. at the Kerry Hills Pub. Uniform orders and payment in full ($650) is due at that time.

Any changes to your initial roster should be noted as well (Don’t worry if you don’t have all of the signatures.). If your payment is not made in full on April 13 you are late and the fee becomes $700 on April 14.

Your hardworking dedicated volunteers running the league do many things but the thing they like least is chasing you down for money. The chasing ends this season. If you have not paid in full by April 17, your spot will be given to a waiting list team. If a captain is unable to attend he must send a representative (and the money) in his place. All necessary forms are available on our website – www.rbvl.com. Virtually all of last year’s squads have paid deposits to insure their place for 2011. However, this is the moment of truth for all returning teams.

Early projections call for eight different divisions with varying levels of skill. Look for 2010 champs Sugar Bowl, Fillmore Insurance, JG Electric, Oceans 12, Miley Home Improvement Posse, the Beach Bums, Sal’s Auto Sandstorm and the Comeback Cats to return and defend their titles with the 2010 runners up nipping at their heels.

Prospective new referees are welcome to come to the meeting if you would like to be worked into our rotation. You do not need to be a certified ref to work in the RBVL. In fact, many refs have been quite successful with a strong playing background (college and high school) and limited referee experience.

You can mark a few additional special dates on your calendars already. Wednesday, May 25 will be our first night of volleyball at the beach. It will be a practice night for all and uniforms and schedules will be given out at that time. Hopefully the weather will cooperate as it did last year. Wednesday, June 1 will be opening day and play will continue every Wednesday until Au-gust 13. On that Saturday, the league championships will be played – keep your schedules clear. Every year it’s a blast!

The RBVL is now on Facebook but unfortunately we don’t twitter. It will only be a short few weeks before opening day arrives and there is still much to be done beforehand.

If you have any questions before the meeting please call Patty Moule on her cell phone at 917-613-0908.

Call between 10 a.m. and 9 p.m.

See you on April 13.
