Departed Firefighter Hero Honored With Charity Game
The Danny Suhr Bowl, a charity football game which honors the New York City Fire Department firefighter who perished in the World Trade Center attacks in 2001, will take place on Saturday, April 16.
The Suhr Bowl will involve his former FDNY Bravest Football Club, who will take on the Brooklyn Mariners semipro team at 1 p.m. at Kings Bay Field on 2670 Coyle Street between Voorhies Avenue and Avenue Z in Brooklyn.
Suhr was a Rockaway native who played linebacker and captained the FDNY team from 1985 to 1997. Suhr was also a team captain and linebacker for the highly regarded Brooklyn Mariners, a semi-pro team.
A 50-50 raffle will be held with the prize including two tickets to a Mets vs. Yankees game. Tickets are priced at $10 and children will be admitted free.
All proceeds will be donated to the Danny Suhr Scholarship Fund. The fund was established to help students who would like to play football at a private high school.
There will be an after party held at the Mariner’s Inn at 3501 Avenue S at 4 p.m. Half of the receipts raised at the bar will be donated to the Suhr Scholarship Fund.
