Private Express Bus Service

Dear Editor,

Private express bus service to lower Manhattan can be provided if there is enough demand for the service. The Rockaway ferry service’s economics were made substantially more difficult because it did not attract enough passengers to make the service viable. Previous express bus service options to lower Manhattan have failed because of the lack of passenger traffic.

Each round trip on a new express bus service to lower Manhattan would have to carry at least 40 passengers at a fare of $6 each way to survive.

Unless 120 passengers each way commit to riding a service, it is not going to happen.

The Rockaway ferry averaged 66 people each way on a one trip per day schedule.

Clearly, the level of interest will have to increase.
