Williams Clinches Spot In Golden Gloves Boxing Finals

Rockaway Ropes Gymnasium boxer Joseph Williams earned a trip to Madison Square Garden when he defeated Zachary Bunce in a heavyweight bout at the Daily News Golden Gloves on March 12.

Williams recorded a technical knockout in the third round when he floored Bunce with an overhand right punch. The 201-pound open class match was stopped with 2:02 left in the third round.

The victory earned “Mack” Williams a berth in the 201-pound open class final against Mark Sinatra (Brotherhood BC) at the Theater at Madison Square Garden. on April 8.

The 22-year-old fighter will be seeking to win his second Golden Gloves title. Williams captured the novice heavyweight championship in 2009. In the 201-pound open final in 2010, Williams was defeated by Stivens Bujaj in a three-round majority decision.
