Traveling Rockaway Little Leaguers Win Trophies

Last weekend, a group of boys from the Rockaway Little League crammed spring training into four games over a nippy Saturday and Sunday in the New York Travel Baseball Preseason Tournament in Bergen Beach and came home with the second place trophies.

Timmy Connelly pumped gas for the two innings he pitched in the championship game, while Chris Koenig and James Byrne showed good command of the strike zone. Jack Mullally and James Byrne sparkled in the field. Kevin Connelly made a solid catch in center. Joe Braskey and John Resker gave Johnny Bench-like innings behind the plate. Jack Casey flashed the tools that have his stock quickly rising at the plate and on the mound. Donato Digaicomo, Brian “Old” MacDonald and Dylan Abernathy proved reliable but no one will forget Willie Warnock the warlock of baseball! Thumbs up to the Rockaway Express, who competed admirably in the 9-to 10- year-old tournament coached by Jaime Agoglia and Stu Starr.
