Second and Third Grade Boys

The Columbus Crew defeated the LA Galaxy, 2-1, on a second half production surge. Galaxy striker Ian Byrne, assisted by attackers Joe Tammaro and Danny Cornish, scored the first goal early in the game. Crew keeper Kieran Howard recovered from the early goal and his team got to work.

Crew defenders Gerard McManus, Thomas Bennett and Matt Edwards patrolled their zones from the midfield back, as determined halfbacks Bryan McGuinn, Brendan Daughtery, Shane Howard, Ryan Murphy, and an ailing Michael Coletta tipped the field towards LA’s Box. Columbus forwards Liam McIvor, Brendan Connoly and scoring leader Sean Hennessey pressed ball control advantage, which freed James Tuohey and Thomas McGinn to score in succession and lock the lead.

Galaxy standouts Brandon Fox, Luca D’Ambrosio and John McMorrow never quit as they blocked out a final minute Crew drive charged with a goal-scrapping offsides penalty. The Crew is 2-0; the Galaxy 1-1.

In their second game of the season, the boys of the Houston Dynamo played their hearts out against the Seattle Sounders before falling 3-1. Dynamo goalies John Curte and Liam Siederman did their jobs well and blocked many shots on goal.

Houston teammates Brian Duggan and Mark Mehta crafted some great passes on the fly. The defense from Jack McCann and Bobby Dalton was relentless. Forward Thomas Charles shook off an early injury to rise to the occasion and notch Houston’s first goal.

Much promise was shown by the team, which looks forward to next week’s game.

The Chicago Fire battled the Red Bulls to a scoreless draw. Steadfast Ricky Diamond played in the Fire’s second straight defensive contest.

First Grade Boys

The Dynamos overcame the Galaxy 1-0. Both teams are now 1-1.
