Roxbury Siblings Head To Nationals
Roxbury siblings Sam Neibel and Isabella Neibel have qualified for the USASA National Championships, a snowboard and freestyle skiing event, to be held at Copper Mountain in Colorado April 9 through 12.
The event brings together competitors from 40 states and 32 regions around the country. USASA is a snowboard and freeride ski association that, according to a spokesperson, promotes both sports, and develops and builds athletic skills for athletes to compete and qualify for national and international competition.
Sam qualified for the event as a nationally ranked freestyle skier. He will compete in the skiercross and slopestyle events. Sam competes as part of the Catskill Mountain Series and is a member of the Windham Mountain Freeride Team and Windham Mountain Freestyle Competition Team.
Isabella, a nationally ranked freestyle skier, qualified as the top 9 and under female skier for the Catskill Mountain Series. She will compete in the skiercross and slopestyle events. This is Isabella’s second year qualifying for nationals. She is a member of the Windham Mountain Freeride Team and the Windham Mountain Freestyle Competition Team. She, too, competes as part of the Catskill Mountain Series.
The Catskill Mountain Series is a regional snowboard and freeride series for pro and amateur competitors governed by the USASA and run by series director Bob Basil.
Sam and Isabella Neibel compete throughout the eastern ski region under the direction of Windham Mountain Freeride Team coach Brian Swedberg.
