F.R. Library Celebrates Women’s History Month With‘You Too Can Soar’

Far Rockaway Library celebrated Women’s History Month last week with a program called “You Too Can Soar.”

Six guest speakers related to the participants how they got to where they are today.

The speakers included Jacqueline Bascom, the Nutrition Outreach and Educational Specialist for the Jewish Community Council of the Rockaway Peninsula and the agency’s director, Kathy Rosenberg; two women who went through tough times and became successes – Jacqueline Stillwell, a parent coordinator at PS 183 and Selena Woodall, an executive legal assistant. ECOS Communications’ sales manager Thelma Scott and Bertha Agrait rounded out the speakers. Also honored was the branch’s principal librarian, Sharon Anderson.

Bascom, who has lived in Rockaway for 40 years, has taken various courses over the years – from the legal to medical field – and said, “Even if you never go into these fields, it’s good to learn.” “Young people, you need that education or you’ll get lost,” Rosenberg said, “Just go for it. Try something new. You can’t say you failed if you tried.”
