Daylight Stabbing Outside Stop 1
A man stumbled into the 100 Precinct station house in Rockaway Beach on Saturday afternoon claiming he had been stabbed across the street from the Hammel Houses outside of the Stop 1 Supermarket, located on Rockaway Beach Boulevard and Beach 86 Street, according to police.
The 40-year-old male told police at the precinct that he was stabbed by Hammels resident Vaughn Martin, 33, at approximately 1 p.m. The victim accused Martin of stabbing him twice, once in the throat and once in the chest. Ongoing verbal disputes between the two men reportedly led to the incident. According to the victim’s account the man had fled back towards Hammels. Precinct officers called an ambulance and rushed the victim to Peninsula Hospital where he was listed in stable condition after receiving three stitches in each stabbing site. Meanwhile, a subsequent search of the public housing complex turned up a positive identification of the description provided by the victim, resulting in Martin’s arrest a few hours later.
He was charged with criminal possession of a weapon, assault and harassment. He was arraigned the following day at Queens Criminal Court. Bail was set at $30,000 bond or $15,000 cash. He’s due back in court on April 5.
