Nature’s First Green

On Sunday, March 27, from 10:30 a.m. to noon, a park ranger will lead a walk through the South Gardens of the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge in Broad Channel, identifying species such as mullein, yarrow, onion grass, butterfly bush, salt spray rose and pussy willow.

Also, participants will learn folklore about how a certain species of flower was carried into battle by the ancient Greek hero Achilles or what common plant early Quaker women used instead of make-up.
